Hunter is the opposite of Stay Away in that you begin with one "not it" and a bunch of "its" and the "rabbit" tries to convert others into becoming one of the prey. Think Night of the Living Dead but with cars and no guns. Stay Away starts of with one "it" who cumulatively converts other players to "its" until you have more "its" than "not its" running all over the map. Tag is the same as you remember from your childhood except it's played with cars and you don't want to be it. The other modes include Tag, Stay Away and Hunter, which are all clever variations of the same theme: somebody is "it" and everybody has to react to them. This game mode alone -at least we remember it from the PC- is one of the best applications of a racing engine we've ever seen. The trick here is to use teamwork to protect the carrier and ward off opponents looking to shake that gold loose. Only one player can possess it at a time and a violent enough crash will cause the carrier to cough up the goods. Two teams compete to pick up a gold icon somewhere in the city and deliver it to another location somewhere else in the city. It's not called Cops 'n Robbers anymore, but Capture the Gold is MM3's answer to the PC Midtown Madness games' most enjoyable multiplayer game. Taking MM3 online will give you the above race modes except for Blitz plus at least four new modes. Cruise simply allows you to tool around your city of choice with no time or competitive pressures so you can scout out shortcuts, jumps and hideouts -locations where you're likely to find powerups and other goodies in multiplayer modes. Each of those modes will each have 40 different courses laid out within DC and Paris like we saw in Project Gotham Racing. Blitz serves more or less as a kind of time attack, while Checkpoint pits you against five AI drivers. The solo player will be able to choose Blitz, Cruise and Checkpoint race modes in addition to working undercover. So for example, the little hatchback runabout used to deliver pizzas can be used on Xbox Live games once you complete enough pizza delivery missions, although we here at IGN will be among the first to laugh at you for choosing to use such a gutless car online. Completing the majority of the missions in a career will unlock the vehicle that you've using in that career, and make it available for other single and multiplayer (including Xbox Live) modes. The missions have been spread over a handful of different "careers" like pizza delivery, car salesman and paramedic and are structured so that you will have up to four specific missions within each career. The game is in RIP version (without the addons on the CD).You have the option of choosing Paris or Washington DC for the single player "Work Undercover" story mode and you can hop back and forth between the two campaigns at will. The advantage of the game is undoubtedly the ability to play in multiplayer mode (over the network). If you have enough races on designated routes, then Midtown Madness is sure to fall in love with you. Thanks to that, we can move through the streets of Chicago without any limits.
Midtown Madness, was one of the first games in which the (quite) faithfully rebuilt city was made available. The last mode of Cruise - here there is no designated destination, we can freely explore the city. Checkpoint, we take further control points - in this mode we are interrupted by the police.
Circuit, it's racing with other opponents. In Blitz mode, we need to reach the target as quickly as possible. There are four modes of play available: Blitz, Circuit, Checkpoint and Cruise. In the game we sit at the wheel of one of the 9 cars (including one bus and a truck) and participate in illegal races on the streets of the city.
